چکیده

Distributed reconfigurable resources, such as FPGA-based accelerator boards1 are expensive and often underutilized. Therefore, it is important to permit sharing these resources at least among the members of the same organization. Traditional resources, such as CPU time of loosely coupled workstations can be shared using a variety of existing distributed computing systems. We analyzed twelve of these systems, and chose five of them, belonging to the class of Job Management Systems with a Central Job Schedular, as most suitable for extension to reconfigurable hardware. These five systems, LSF, CODINE, PBS, Condor, and RES, were further compared based on their functional characteristics and ease of extension. LSF was shown to be superior according to the majority of the 25 identified requirements. The general architecture of the extended system was developed, and the exact way of extending LSF, CODINE, and PBS to manage FPGA-based accelerator boards was proposed.

On Incorporating Reconfigurable Architectures into Grid Environments Using GridSim

Grid computing has emerged as the next-generation parallel and distributed computing methodology, which aggregates dispersed heterogeneous resources for solving various kinds of largescale parallel applications in science, engineering and commerce. In order to evaluate the performance of Grid resource management and application scheduling algorithms, we need to conduct repeatable and controlled...

Modeling and Analysis of Distributed Reconfigurable Hardware∗

The ability to migrate hardware processes in a network of hardware reconfigurable nodes improves the fault tolerance of these networks. The degree of fault tolerance is inherent to such networked systems and can be optimized during design time. Therefore, an efficient way of calculating the degree of fault tolerance is needed. This paper presents an approach based on satisfiability testing whic...

PCP-based Solution for Resource Sharing in Reconfigurable Timed Net Condition/Event Systems

This research paper deals with reconfigurable discrete-event control systems which are distributed on networked devices to execute control software tasks with shared resources. A reconfiguration scenario is also assumed to be any addition, removal or update of tasks and shared resources. Nevertheless, the addition of resources at run-time can bring the system to a blocking problem that is somet...

Study on the Availability Prediction of the Reconfigurable Networked Software System

This paper describes a multi-agent based availability prediction approach for the reconfigurable networked software system based on the complex system’s model and simulation. Firstly, the definition of the features and availability of reconfigurable networked software system is introduced. Secondly, on the basis of the multi-agent based networked software system modeling method, an availability...

Effective Utilization and Reconfiguration of Distributed Hardware Resources Using Job Management Systems

Reconfigurable hardware resources are very expensive, and yet can be underutilized. This paper describes a middleware capable of discovering underutilized computing nodes with FPGA-based accelerator boards in a networked environment. Using an extended Job management system (JMS), this middleware permits sharing reconfigurable resources at least among the members of the same organization. Tradit...
